For the attention of Rectors of Universities
and professors in the candidate countries

Dear Rector, Dear Professor,

It is with great pleasure that the European Commission announces the launch of the Jean Monnet Project 2001 for candidate countries.

This is a new initiative which aims to support the setting up of academic initiatives in European integration studies in universities from the start of the academic year 2001/2002. The project launched in the candidate countries aims to strengthen the academic resources and expertise in these countries in the perspective of their future membership of the European Union.

The Vade Mecum for the Jean Monnet Project 2001 together with the application forms can be found on the European Commission's website at the following address:

http://europa.eu.int/comm/dgl0/university/ajm/call.html

Applicants are requested to read the Vade Mecum attentively before filling out the appropriate application form. They are also reminded that the applications may not be submitted via the Internet but that each form should be down loaded and signed by the Rector before submission.

I look forward with great interest to receiving your proposals. Yours faithfully,

Mrs Belen Bernaldo de Quiros
