CRYSTALLOGRAPHIC STUDIES OF BENZOYL DISULPHIDE (C6H5CO)2S2
Archiwum Mineralogiczne v. 2, p. 1-12, 1926The crystals of benzoyl disulphide (C6H5CO)2S2 which have been the object of this research have been obtained at the Laboratory for Organic Chemistry at the Warsaw Polytechnic School by Prof. L. Szperl to whom I wish to express my thanks. The crystals belong to the prismatic (holohedral) class of the monoclinic system and do not in any way resemble the orthorhombic (nearly tetragonal) crystals of such a next chemical analogue as benzoyl peroxide. The general aspect of the most crystals reminds a regular dodecahedron, since the principal faces are c(001), b(010), o(111),
(l1
), the less important a(100), q(011) and m(110); s(201) are visible only during goniometric measurement as faint reflexes. The axial ratio is a : b : c = 0.7510 : l : 1.0236;
= 107°101/2'. Spheric co-ordinates of the faces are given in relation to (010) as pole-face and (100) as azimuth zero-point. The results of the measurement of the four principal faces have been represented graphically. The refractive index nm = 1.702 has been determined by the method of immersion and the Becke line; the extinction angle on (010) c : ng = +18° (in acute angle
) or a : np = +35.2°. The optic axial angle found by the authors method from the extinction angle on (l1
) is 2V = 84°-85°, dispersion
<
very distinct. Plane of optic axes is (010), one of the axes is slighlhły inclined to the normal to (001) (8°5l' in air, 5°11' in crystal). This last determination combined with the extinction angle on (010) and with the angle [001] : (001) would give 2V = 80°45'. Interesting shapes were observed on a thin crystal edge obtained by crystallisation of melted benzoyl disulphide under the microscope.

ON THE NATURE OF LUBLINITE AND ITS SOLUBILITY IN DISTILLED WATER
Archiwum Mineralogiczne v. 5, p. 97-107, 1929Lublinite, a fibrous natural variety of calcium carbonate formed in supergene environment, was proved to be identical with calcite. Its solubility is 0,0137 g per 100 ccm of distilled water at 230-233°C. Other features of the mineral were determined.
