We invite to participate in the annual scientific meeting of the Petrology Section of the Mineralogical Society of Poland devoted to the  rocks of the crystalline basement of the North-East Poland and the neighbouring areas

Meeting subject. We plan two thematic groups of presentations: a) Scientific session Crystalline rocks of the East-European craton, b) Open session. 
The subject of the session  Crystalline rocks of the East-European craton, includes all petrological.geochemical and mineralogical aspects of this geologic structure, and the comparative considerations of the other similar Precambrian massifs.  During the Open session all problems in petrological and related fields may be presented.
Presentations. Four kinds of the scientific presentations are expected:
1. Lectures of the meeting participants in English (15 min. + 5 min. for discussion);
2. Lectures of the invited speakers in English (30 or 40 min., discussion immediately after the lecture is not foreseen, however, it could be vivid during coffee breaks);
3. Posters prepared in English (recommended) or in other language.
4. Short adverisements of the posters in English (2 min., 1-2 transparencies), presented in a short meeting before the poster session, questions and discussions next to the posters.
Publication. A subsequent volume of the Mineralogical Society of Poland Special Papers will be issued with communications of the 12th Meeting of the  Petrology Section. Four-page camera-ready communications in English, prepared strictly according to the enclosed instruction and specimen should be mailed before May 17, 2005 in form of the computer laser print to: Dr. Slawomir Ilnicki, Instytut Geochemii, Mineralogii i Petrologii, Wydział Geologii UW, al. Zwirki i Wigury 93, 02-089 Warszawa, Poland (e-mail: slawomir.ilnicki@uw.edu.pl). The texts will be reviewed, the electronic version will be asked for after the reviews. The number of the submitted communications by one participant is not limited.

The site and arrival. The session is planned at Stary Folwark near the Wigry Lake in the neighbourhood of the city of Suwalki, at the margins of the Wigry Landscape Park. The accomodation and the sessions will be most probably in the  "Holiday"hotel . One may arrive to this place by train to Suwalki (5 do 6 godzin z Warszawy) and by bus to Stary Folwark (11 km, ca. 15 min.), b) by car from Waresaw using the road via Wyszogrod, Ostrow Mazowiecka, Lomza, Stawiski, Szczuczyn, Grajewo, Rajgrod, Augustow, Suwalki and from Suwalki by the road toward Sejny to Stary Folwark (ca. 300 km).

Preliminary schedule of the meeting. The proposed schedule is as follows:
October 13, Thursday - arrival of the participants, registration, from 17.30 to 18.30 - first lecture session;
October14, Friday - lectures and poster session;
October15, Saturday - lectures and poster session;
October 16, Sunday - field trip to the Reserve "Erratic Boulders at Bachanowo on Czarna Hancza River" or to the Reserve "Lopuchowo Eratic Boulders", visit to the drilling cores storehouse at Szurpily and exhibition of the rocks of the crystalline basement of NE Poland; bus transfer to the railway station in Suwalki. 
Fee. The Organizing Committee will keep the participation costs as low as possible. Accomodation (65 zl = ca. 13 euro per night with breakfast per person) and meals will be paid by the participants during the session. Earlier booking is necessary, thus please, indicate the proper option in the participation form.
The participation fee will be announced in the second communicate which will be issued on May 20, 2005.
