Ta wówczas już pięcioletnia płyta została przeze mnie kupiona w Waszyngtonie w roku 1978, w jakimś małym sklepiku muzycznym. Entuzjastą Roberty Flack nie jestem i spośród chyba 12 jej płyt długogrających i kompaktowych lubię tylko tę (nie mówię o powtórnych nagraniach). I jeszcze single play Roberty Flack z Donnym Hathawayem You've lost that loving feeling, wydany w roku 1971 (SP Roberty Flack było, jeśli dobrze policzyłem, trzydzieści i trzy dotychczas, w tym Killing me softly z roku 1973). Z płyty Killing me softly z przyjemnością słucham utworu tytułowego oraz wszystkich innych, tej przyjemności nie odczuwam już, gdy usłyszę inne utwory w jej wykonaniu.

I heard he sang a good song, I heard he had a style.
And so I came to see him to listen for a while.
And there he was this young boy, a stranger to my eyes.		 I felt all flushed with fever, embarrassed by the crowd,
I felt he found my letters and read each one out loud.
I prayed that he would finish but he just kept right on.

He sang as if he knew me in all my dark despair
and then he looked right through me as if I wasn't there.
But he just came to singing, singing clear and strong.
