Hukou Waterfalls
along the Huanghe River in China, Tsing Ma Bridge in Hong Kong on the stamp; the
sheet issued in 2002.

NOTE 1: The Hukou waterfall on the Huanghe River west of Jixian County, Shanxi, is formed when the river flows to the Hukou Mountains on the Shanxi-Shaanxi border and its 250-meter-wide bed, sandwiched between the canyons on its banks, abruptly narrows into a trough 50 meters wide and 30 meters deep and falls down into a big stone-strewn pool. The section of the river here is like the mouth of a water-flash. Hence the name of the waterfall, which means “ Flask Mouth waterfall”. The waterfall has a descent of 15-20 meters in the low-water season, but it is scarcely noticeable as a waterfall in the high-water season when the waters burst into rapid torrents. The section is rich in hydroelectric power potential. (china.org.cn)
NOTE 2: The Tsing Ma Bridge stretching from Tsing Yi Isle to Ma Wan (Bay), 22,000 meters long, is the longest suspension bridge for both vehicle and railway purposes in the world. It was open to traffic in 1997, linking Landau Island and the urban districts. Parking is prohibited on the Tsing Ma Bridge. The Tsing Yi Trunkroute Viewing Terrace to the northwest of Tsing Yi Isle and the Visiting Guest Centre are places for watching and familiarizing with the Tsing Ma Bridge with entertainment. The model, pictures and the structure of the Tsing Yu trunkroute are on display in the Visiting Guest Centre.
