Born on January 2, 1935, Prof. A. Macioszczyk was graduated from the Warsaw University in 1957. She obtained a Ph.D. from the Polish Academy of Sciences in 1969, and a degree of D.Sc. in hydrogeology from the Warsaw University in 1978. She was awarded a position of professor in 1989. Specialised in hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry and protection of ground-water quality she gained her professional and scientific experience from the Warsaw University, the Technical Warsaw University, and the Polish Academy of Sciences. The former Soviet Union, France, Belgium, and Russia were the countries where she was offered a scientific fellowship.
Prof. A. Macioszczyk has organised and directed (over a dozen years or so) the University Centre for Environmental Studies. At the same time she has given a number of lectures on hydrogeology, hydrogeochemistry, and water protection, including those of monographic character. Also, she has promoted 6 doctor's theses and has led over sixty master's theses.
A list of Prof. A. Macioszczyk's publications includes over 180 scientific entries - with more than 100 original works published - and several sheets of hydrogeological maps. She was the first to publish the first Polish handbook on hydrogeochemistry; she also edited a number of hydrogeological and hydrogeochemical works.
Main areas of Prof. A. Macioszczyk's scientific interest cover issues connected with the methodics of investigation and interpretation of the study results as pertaining to genesis of ground-water chemistry and to influence of anthropopressure upon chemistry of water. She developed problems connected with the issue of hydrogeochemical background, methods of interpretation of anomalies as well as methods applicable to interpretation of results of ground water monitoring. She directs particular attention to initial stages of anthropopressure as reflected by ground-water chemistry and to predicting hydrogeochemical tranformation of anthropogenic character.
Prof. A. Macioszczyk is a member of the International Association of Hydrogeologists, the Commission for Hydrogeology of Geological Sciences Institute at the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Polish Geological Society, the Commission for Hydrogeological Reports at the Ministry of Environment, and other scientific authorities.
